Running RaceTab for the First Time
From RaceTab Community Wiki
| Note: The first time you start RaceTab after installation, you may be first prompted by Windows with security warnings. This is the case with many versions of Windows including XP, Vista and Windows 7. Microsoft introduced security measures to protect you from malicious programs and viruses in these operating systems. These security warnings are standard and you simply need to approve the requests. This sets administrative permissions and/or will allow RaceTab to communicate through the Windows Firewall. |
As RaceTab loads you will see two initial splash screens (each should appear for a second or so) and then the program itself will appear. The first time you are starting RaceTab the program will have spaces for your basic information. It looks like this:
It is important that you set this information accurately and completely, although you can go back and edit it later.
Overview There are three sections to the Initial Setup screen:
- Basic Information
- Computer Alias
- City, State
- Country
- User Information (Required)
- Your Name
- Organization
- MileSplit Login
- Username
- Password
Basic Information:
- Computer Alias: This will assign an identity to this computer when on a network and using RaceTab. In many cases you will want to use more than one computer on a network while running RaceTab. Assigning this alias will facilitate networking when using multiple computers for one meet.
- City, State: The city and state information will set the default location for new meets and for searching for meets.
User Information
- Your Name and Organization: Once filled in, the name and organization you set will greet you in the future when RaceTab starts. This information will also print on the results, etc., so be sure to set it knowing others will see this information Your name will also be used as the identity in the "from" and "reply-to" locations when sending results and other automated emails from RaceTab.
- Email: this email address will be used when sending automated email from RaceTab, such as results.
MileSplit Login
- Username and Password: The username and password you specify under MileSplit login is used for various forms of communicating with MileSplit such as downloading meets, teams, rosters ... or uploading live results or photos to MileSplit ... as well as for other features such as allowing it to integrate with the future mobile device applications.
It is important that you set this information accurately and completely for RaceTab to function at its full capacity. You may later go back and edit any/all of this information later if it changes or you made a mistake in setting it the first time.
