xNote Stopwatch (link to xNote Stopwatch site) is an alternative to the great built in RaceTab stopwatch (Event Tab > Stopwatch) that some people may prefer. Please note that the free/demo version of xNote Stopwatch will simply not work well as it has limited functionality. You will need to purchase the xNote Stopwatch timer.

Advantages of Using xNote Stopwatch

xNote Stopwatch has several possible advantages, including, that you may configure the hotkeys are if you prefer not to disable/use the spacebar. xNote Stopwatch will continue to record times when the hotkey is pushed even when the xNote Stopwatch window is in the background and thus is not the currently selected application. Conversely RaceTab Stopwatch must be both visible and the currently focused application or it will not record times on hotkey pushes.

xNote Stopwatch will also automatically insert times in a spread sheet if configured to do so and can save to a text file.

Disdvantages of Using xNote Stopwatch

Unlike the built in Stopwatch in RaceTab that automatically imports times and remembers the timing sessions, you need to save the file at the end of your timing session with xNote Stopwatch. And then you need to import the times. While this is a disadvantage, it is still easy to do thanks to a built in format for importing xNote Stopwatch times.

Timing with the xNote Stopwatch

Start xNote Stopwatch and time your race. In xNote Stopwatch, click on more > show results window. After completing the timing of the race, click on the button in the "XNote Stopwatch/Results" window that says "Save as Text file ..." and save your text file to a known place.

In RaceTab, click on the "Event" tab, be sure that the proper race is highlighted in the left pane, click on times > import from delimited file. Select your file using the browse window and open it.

Under Import Settings be sure that the "Times" radio button is selected.

Under "Preset Format" select XNote Stopwatch from the drop down list.

It should look like this picture:

Click OK button and you will have imported the times.

Run Both Watches at Once

You can start both the RaceTab stopwatch and xNote Stopwatch at the same time to time your race if you wish. To do so, set a different hotkey (using enter as the hotkey for xNoteStopwatch is discouraged since it is also the stop hotkey and given that it is a common key should you start entering bibs, you could have an accidental stop).
